Closed Pubs: The Sundowner

A characteristic post-war estate pub situated on the western side of Widnes. StreetView indicates that it closed at some time between 2008 and 2012, and now appears to have been converted to residential use.

A FAREWELL TO PUBS

The British pub as we know it is slowly but surely dying. This blog aims to mark its passing with a collection of Google StreetView links to images of closed pubs.

If you have any further suggestions, please send them to me by e-mail. I'm happy to accept photos of pubs that have shut after being pictured on GSV, but do need pics actually showing them closed.

Some of these pubs, as people have reported in the comments, have subsequently reopened. If that happens, it's good news.

I acknowledge the copyright of Google Maps in some of the pictures used on this blog, although a growing number are original photographs by me and other contributors.
