A surprisingly shallow pub situated on a main road to the north-east of the town centre. There are now plans to convert it to a mental health support hub. Note the very rare twin-steer Ford Focus in the foreground of the StreetView image.
A modern estate pub on the south-east side of the town, close to the Cheshire Oaks outlet village, named after locally-born footballer Joe Mercer. It closed in 2010, but there were attempts to convert it for residential use, which have now been abandoned, leading to plans for its demolition.
A modern, stone-faced pub, built in the 1970s by Tetley’s and situated on the south-east side of the city on the main road heading towards Wakefield. The building is now occupied by Nangla Furniture.
Befitting its name, a particularly grim and functional-looking pub situated in what appears to be the middle of a business park. It originally had windows along the top of the ground floor which have now been tinned up. It has been closed since 2012 and there are now plans, unsurprisingly, to convert it into flats.
A white-painted, L-shapred pub at the western end of the town close to a bridge over the Royal Military Canal. It has been closed since 2016 and is now to be turned into apartments, with a café or restaurant on the ground floor.
