The Bowling Green

The Bowling Green, Chorlton-on-Medlock, Manchester

Despite being in a busy area close to the University and Manchester Royal Infirmary, with many student flats nearby, this former Greenall’s pub wasn’t able to survive. It has since been demolished.

  1. Nice pic.

Were any of the long-closed pubs between Piccadilly and the Etihad Stadium(Bank of England for one) any good, do you think ?

  2. You need to thank Google Street View for the picture, not me.

I never did any of those pubs up Pollard Street, but one that was worth visiting was the Britannia on Rowsley Street, a Lees tied house just north of the New Road, which the late great Alan Winfield visited here. "I had a drink of Lees Bitter which cost 99p for a pint, this was a very poor drink." Also refers to City's "new lego ground" ;-)
