Recording the slow, sad death of the British pub
The Four in Hand, Hattersley, Cheshire
A striking 1960s estate pub built in to one side of a tower block of flats, with the main drinking area on the first floor.
That pub looks great,it would be a dream come true to go in it.Sadly Hattersley Estate is one of the few areas i missed while trying to do all pubs in Thameside.
Yes, must have been a fascinating place in its heyday. One of the Hattersley pubs is still clinging on but all the rest are gone.
According to Paul Taylor's "History of Hyde Pubs" it didn't open until 1973. It closed in 2012.
There was a Boxing Gym below the Pub, Ricky Hatton used to train there.
