The Village Gate

The Village Gate, Wendover, Buckinghamshire

A large, attractive roadside pub at the north end of the town, which has been closed since 2018 following a fire, and is now in a ruinous state.

The Green Man

The Green Man, Mursley, Buckinghamshire

An attractive small inter-wars pub in a rural village just outside Milton Keynes, which closed suddenly during 2021.

The Bernard Arms

The Bernard Arms, Great Kimble, Buckinghamshire

A roadside pub in a leafy setting in the shadow of the Chilterns on the main road between Aylesbury and Princes Risborough. It appears to be an inter-wars rebuilding of an older pub. One of the closest pubs to Chequers, it has in the past played host to Prime Ministers and Presidents, but that wasn’t enough to save it.

The Studley Arms

The Studley Arms, Stokenchurch, Buckinghamshire

A substantial 1930s cottage-style roadhouse with a pair of black-and-white gables now tucked away behind a high fence. The M40 bypassing this stretch of the A40 was opened in 1967, so can hardly be blamed for the pub’s decline.

The Plough & Anchor

The Plough & Anchor, Kingswood, Buckinghamshire

A typical main-road pub with a large car park, no doubt largely given over to dining in recent years. I am told this one has reopened since the StreetView image was taken.
