A distinctive free-standing pub with Tudor-style gables in a run-down inner-urban area.
The Brick House
An ornately decorated street-corner pub, still in Whitbread livery, just west of the town centre.
The Wheatsheaf
This pub in a small village near Stone still looks to be thriving on StreetView. The Brushmakers’ Arms a couple of doors up the street is still in business.
(My own picture)
The Bush Hotel
A historic Georgian city-centre hotel that was once a drinking haunt of Dylan Thomas, now scheduled for demolition.
The Grey Mare
A street-corner pub situated next to the new tram route to Eccles. A modern makeover as “Bar and Food” hasn’t helped save it.
The Worthenbury Arms
A roadside village pub that is “To Let” on the 2009 StreetView image, but looking considerably more sorry for itself in the recent photo. Now bearing Thwaites signs, I recall it once being tied to Border Breweries. Despite its English-sounding name, this village is actually in Wales, in the detached “English Maelor” portion of Flintshire.
The Rising Sun
A small mock-Tudor pub with impressive chimneystacks sandwiched between larger modern shopping developments on a South London high street.
The Caribou
A big, four-square former Thwaites pub situated in an interesting coastal village which combines yacht marina with light industry and working port. It was converted to flats some years ago, but here’s a picture of it as a pub. There’s a plaque by the door giving its former name. The village still manages to sustain two other pubs.
The Prince Albert
This large pub by a roundabout to the west of the town centre was originally two separate pubs – the Prince Albert and the Prince of Orange – which were combined into one.
The Tal-y-Cafn
A once-popular destination pub, formerly tied to Greenalls, alongside the main A470 road in an attractive situation by the River Conwy. Still open on StreetView, and there are apparently plans to reopen it.
The Battery
A massive late Victorian pub with a commanding view over Morecambe’s run-down seafront.
The Hope & Anchor
An imposing three-storey mid-terrace pub just off the town centre that is still very much open on StreetView, but now in a sadly derelict and boarded-up state.
