We have bought the Black Lion and are awaiting Planinng Permission to rennovate and extend the building and turn it in to a destination food pub utilising the great local produce found on Anglesey. We hope to be up and running in Spring 2012.
We wouldn't be investing an awful lot of time and money into the refurbishment if we were not confident of the potential trade in the catchment area - being local sure helps in knowing the local market !
We have driven past this pub many times and would have loved to have bought it and done it, but financially couldnt do it. There is something amazing about this building, I felt very drawn to it. When open, we will certainly visit especially if you will be using local produce.. Look forward to seeing this beautiful building open again.. Good luck Ems x
Thanks Ems - we are hoping to start building work in the next couple of months and will be open by next summer. There will be plenty of local produce including a lot of home grown summer salads, herbs and vegetables, home reared beef and pork and locally caught fish. We look forward to seeing you Hwyl
My grandparents ran this pub in the 1930-50's.. and my 2 aunts were born there. Was just there sitting outside 2 days ago, now back in USA... so very sad.. did someone REALLY buy it?
Yes we really have bought it and will be re -opening in Summer 2012. We will have some guest bedrooms so next time you're in Wales you can come and stay !!
WE are the two aunts of the above. Our mother was a superb cook and only used local produce which was all you could get during the war anyway. We had a large garden at the rear which supplied all the vegetables and soft fruit also chickens. So you will be continuing a tradition which has been lost up to now. Good luck. We shall be sure to visit.
Work is progressing well on the renovations and we will be opening in June. It would be great if you have any old photo's of the pub as it was ? You can e-mail me on mari.jones@blacklionanglesey.co.uk if you are happy to share some photo's ! This Spring we are concentrating on getting the pub ready but hopefuly next year we will have developed our own kitchen garden and may well have some chickens ! Yes we will be having real ale ! We will launching our website soon - www.blacklionanglesey.co.uk so keep an eye out for that. We look forward to meeting you soon Hwyl, Mari

ReplyDeleteGood, glad to hear of at least one being brought back to life again. Are you sure there's enough potential trade in the catchment area, though?
