Recording the slow, sad death of the British pub
A J. W. Lees pub stranded amongst a sea of car park on the west side of the town centre, viewed from a car park access ramp.
Sorry to have a downer on this place, but it was not even a good pub in the mid 70s when we went there underage drinking at lunch time from Oldham College of Technology. Why did we go to the Bank Top? You could generally get the pool table to your group.
Good news, the Bank Top Tavern has reopened, with the landlord from the nearby, now demolished Abbey Inn taking over. They have live a good selection of Lees ales and live music several nights a week.
