The Anson

The Anson, Longsight, Manchester

A big, solid 1930s pub in an area of council housing, long since converted to an Asian cash and carry.

  1. My grandfather was landlord here until 1977. I remember staying in the pub when i was little. It was a huge place - snooker room / off sales / 3 bars / revolving main door! I remember it had a lift from cellar to bar to 1st floor function rooms. Thanks for putting on this photo as we have no family ones funnily enough - brings back memories.

  2. My Grandad, had a pint there every night. I never saw it inside. I went down Beresford rd a couple of weeks ago, so changed and really sad.

    1. I used to go past it as a kid and would always be in fear what the drunkards would shout at me - usually the "p" word. So am glad it's gone tbh so my kids don't ever feel the way I used to.
