The Mountblairy Arms

The Mountblairy Arms, Pole of Itlaw, Banffshire

A small single-storey pub at a remote roadside location in North-East Scotland. The sign says “High Road Pub & Steakhouse”.

  1. Spent a few nights in here while on holidays back in the 1980's. It had a basic bar to the right with dart board and a more salubrious lounge to the left. The steaks were very nice! There was a post office/general store opposite and a phone box - a little oasis in an otherwise remote area. When I revisited in 2003 only the phone box was still functional. A shame but happy memories nevertheless.

  3. My father, John Ogston, bought "The Pole" in 1953 and rebuilt the byre as "The Mountblary Arms". A petrol pump was also installed at the roadside. He sold the business in 1958 and bought "The Railway Inn" in Banff. Many happy memories. Sandy Ogston.
